  • Dr Rob Ralphs (Senior Lecturer, Manchester Metropolitan University) has over 20 years’ experience of researching substance use and drug markets. His current research is focused on emerging drug trends, including prescription drugs, image and performance enhancing drugs (IPEDs), new psychoactive substance (NPS) including chemsex, and the use of synthetic cannabinoids (aka ‘Spice’) in prison and homeless communities.
  • Dr. Oliver Sutcliffe (Senior Lecturer, Manchester Metropolitan University) has nineteen years research experience in pharmaceutical chemistry in both an academic and industrial environment. He is currently a Senior Lecturer in Psychopharmaceutical Chemistry and Director of the MANDRAKE (MANchester DRug Analysis & Knowledge Exchange) partnership between Manchester Metropolitan and Greater Manchester Police. Oliver’s research interests lie principally in the synthesis, detection and quantification of new/emerging psychoactive substances used regularly on recreational drug market.
  • Dr Owen Bowden-Jones (Consultant Psychiatrist, CNWL, Honorary Senior Lecturer, Imperial College London) is a medical doctor, psychiatrist and researcher with more than 20 years’ experience of helping people with mental health and substance misuse problems on their journey to recovery. He works in both NHS and private practice. In 2010, he founded the CNWL Club Drug Clinic, a service specialising in helping people with problem use of drugs. The clinic is known for its ground-breaking approaches to treating drug problems. He is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College London and his research focuses on developing innovative treatments for substance misuse problems. He currently leads project NEPTUNE, which has brought together clinical experts to develop guidelines for emerging drug problems. He is a clinical adviser to the Alcohol, Drugs and Tobacco division at Public Health England and Associate Registrar for Policy Support at the Royal College of Psychiatrists. In 2017 he was appointed chair of the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs, an independent expert body that advises the UK Government on drug-related issues.
